Betty Ah Nee

Aloha, my name is Betty J. Ah Nee. In November 2004, while living in Las Vegas, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Weeks later on December 9th I had a thyroidectomy, which removed almost all my thyroid gland.

Following the surgery, I was required to have radiation treatments to kill any remaining cancer cells. Tests showed that I was clear, but I needed annual body scans. For two years the report was good, but in March 2007 the test revealed 3 spots – on my right lung, on my stomach, and in my throat.

Even though my doctor in Las Vegas was a thyroid specialist, he wanted a second opinion from a specialist in Texas, reputed to be one of the best in the world.

Fearing I might have cancer again, my husband suggested we go to Maui to see the family and get my mind off things for a while. I asked my daughter Morrisa (Ohashi) to pray for me and to ask her friends at Grace Church for prayer.

To me it's so awesome when one of your children is willing to pray for their mother. Pastor Robb and Paulette Yoshida prayed for me – (they're such wonderful people and I have so much faith in them).

My husband and I went to Texas on May 6th-9th 2007 to see the other specialist and take more tests. After more tests, the doctor told me I did not have cancer, and the spots were of no concern. Praise God! I cannot tell you how relieved I was. I continue to have check-ups every 6 months and the spots are unchanged – which is a good sign.

I thank the Lord. I know he wants me to stay on earth for a long time.
